Linnea Star keeps her promise to Saint Katharine Drexel
My mother had become very ill with a multitude of medical ailments.
Two strokes, staph infection, wound infection, colostomy operation and
she only weighed 90 lbs. The doctors were kind and understanding, but
were not confident that she would make it thu the night. They told me
if there was a priest, the call should be made. The priest arrived
shortly afterwards, and began the final blessing of the sick, the Last
Rites. I stood there and watched my mother, nearly unrecognizable and I
called to her. "Mama, Mama, don't leave me yet. Don't go...I asked her
to open her eyes, and she did. I asked her to move her hands and feet
and she did that too. The doctor and nurse told me that it was only a
reflex. I disagreed. I knew that she had heard me .......I stood in
the hallway, and I petitioned St. Katharine Drexel. And, I promised if
St.Katharine would bring my Mother back to me, I would never ask for
anything else for me again. And, I promised if she answered this
petition, I would tell the World of her, and I would do the Spiritual
Mediumship in the way it was intended to be.That night was probably the
longest night of my life. I remained by her side until dawn. The same
physician was still there, and he promised to call me if any change
occurred. It was about 6:45 a.m. when the phone rang. It was the
doctor. "Did I lose her", I asked. "We have some hope here, she just
woke up and she is asking for you." I raced back to the ICU unit, and
stood beside her bed. She looked up at me and said "I heard you.....I
was just about to reach Daddy....and I heard you call me back...."
My mother had four years and ten months more on this Earth. She
eventually learned to walk again, and her weight reached 140 pounds.
We had a hell of a run together ---------And, I wouldn't have changed a
thing. It was well worth it.....to see her come back to me from the
brink of Death. To spend more time with me. Her only daughter.
St.Katharine Drexel kept her promise to me in October, 2000. And now, I
am keeping my promise to St.Katharine Drexel.By the way, a few weeks
ater I attended an event. There was a lady seated next to me and I
casually asked her why I saw Pennsylvania around her.
She responded that that was where she was from. And, she continued, I
was about to speak to you. I just attended the canonization of St.
Katharine Drexel in Pennsylvania. Her mother church is across the
street
from my apartment building. As the event was happening in
Rome, they also did it in Pennsylvania.
And, when I chose my confirmation name, I really didn't know why.
Everyone said why that name. I guess I liked it. In case you didn't
know, it is Katharine.
